Custos Luminis – Work in Progress

24″ x 36″ | Acrylic on canvas

This painting was begun while live painting at Area 33 in Los Angeles on the Winter Solstice 2009.  The solstice is a symbolic time when the day is at its shortest, but there is a shift back to light as the days once again start to grow longer.  Custos Luminis translates from the Latin to mean Keeper of the Light.  This piece showed at the Temple of Visions gallery in Los Angeles for the “Heart of Gaia” show and again in Lake Tahoe in my solo show there.  Earth is the one planet of our solar system we know that keeps the light of the sun and changes it into living matter.

Sunrise in the studio

It’s live beginnings, and some studio work.
